The average temperature in Loreto Mexico is 80°F (27°C), and it fluctuates quite a bit from a low of 60°F (16°C) to 90°F (32°C) thanks to the fact that is in a semi-disserted area. In Winter the temperature will be cool with an average high of 80°F (27°C) and on average as low as 50 °F (10°C). In the Summer the temperature will be between an average high of 100°F (38°C) and an average low of 75 °F (24°C).

Places to Visit

In Loreto there are many fun things to do. Here are some of our recommended places:

  • Nopolo Located 6 mi (9 km) South of Loreto. Nice beach with plenty of activities, hotels, restaurants and play areas.

  • Puerto Escondido Located 19 mi (30 km) South of Loreto. This is a group of beaches in a bay with amazing views.

  • Bahia Concepcion - Concepcion Bay - Located 60mi (97km) Northwest of Loreto. Perfect for water sports and also relaxing.

  • Juncalito Located 15mi (24km) South of Loreto. Little town with secluded beaches with fine sand and beautiful landscapes.

  • El Vizcaino Biosphere Reserve Located 120mi (200km) North of Loreto. It is an ecological reserve covering about 5.4 million acres (2.5 million hectares) with beaches, sand dunes, volcanic rock formations. Perfect to see wildlife of the region.

  • Bahia de Loreto Marine Park This park is actually a group of islands off the coast of Loreto including Coronado, Montserrat, El Carmen, Danzante and Santa Catalina. It is perfect to stay in touch with nature and observe the wild life.

  • Bahia Magdalena Located 60 mi (100km) Southwest of Loreto Bay. Here you will find the breeding grounds of whales in a group of lagoons and low barrier islands. During the winter months (January through March), it is the perfect place to see different species of whales such as the blue whale, gray whale, orcas and humpback whales.

  • Shopping In downtown Loreto souvenir shops and markets with crafts, Mexican silver and Mexican clothing. The best place is in Salvatierra street.

  • Festivals and Religious Celebrations With parades, fireworks, and folk dances. Among the most famous are Our Lady of Loreto Holidays Fiestas de Nuestra SeƱora de Loreto from September 4th to the 8th, and the celebrations of the founding of the city from October 18th to 25th.

  • Museum of Jesuits Missions Located at Plaza Salvatierra and Calle 16 with history about the city.

There are the authentic Mexican restaurants that you can enjoy with fresh seafood and there are also the fine dining restaurants.

Loreto has a more relaxed atmosphere than big touristic places, but there are still many bars and discos where to have fun. There will be Spanish and English pop and modern music or you can opt for the more traditionally Mexican salsa and other rythms.


How to Get and Move Around in Loreto

Loreto has its own international airport (LTO) although there are very limited options for flying. There are a couple flights from Los Angeles and other cities in Mexico.

To go to Loreto by air your best bet will be the "San Jose del Cabo" international airport which has regular flights from all major hubs in the US and from cities across Mexico.

Then, you will have to rent a car because it is a 530km (330mi) drive and it will take you about 5 hours.

Another adventurous way to get to Loreto is to drive from San Diego which is the closest US city. The drive is about 720mi (450km).

Driving in Baja California highways is perfectly safe, and you will have a dessertic view with the beautiful blue sea along the way.
