Find Cheap Flights to Mexico!

If you are looking for cheap flights to Mexico, here is the place to start. In this page you will find information on your options when travelling from different parts of the world and how to find your cheapest ticket.

Sometimes we debate if we should take a vacation package or book flights and hotel separately, so here is a note about vacation packages: finding a vacation package is sometimes a little bit cheaper than buying the air ticket and hotel separately, but is not necessarily always true. Also, finding the hotel separately gives you added flexibility. Hotels usually allow you to change the reservation a short period of time before the start of your vacations, so you are only left with the hassle of changing the air ticket. On the contrary, when you buy a vacation package there are rules set by the vacation operator. Check your options!

First, you must know that going to Mexico's beaches or large cities is usually cheaper than going to other vacation destinations in the caribbean or in the Americas thanks to competition in the airline industry.

Here are the most popular beach destinations in approximate order of demand:

  • Cancun
  • Puerto Vallarta
  • Los Cabos
  • Cozumel
  • Ixtapa and Zihuatanejo
  • Acapulco

Here are the inner Mexico most popular destinations :

  • Mexico City (MEX)
  • Guadalajara (GDL)
  • Monterrey (MTY)
  • Leon (BJX)

Cheap Flights to Mexico from the US

The two airlines with the most flights to Mexico are Continental Airlines and American Airlines. They provide convenience to the traveler who has an inner Mexico destination.

The main cities and beaches mentioned above got flights from many of the top US airlines at competitive prices. The two top Mexican airlines are: Mexicana and Aeromexico which periodically publish promotions. It is easier to find a promotion going to Mexico on either of these airlines because they obviously focus on flights to Mexico as opposed to other US airlines which publish promotions to many other destinations.

Cheap Flights to Mexico from Europe

When flying from Europe to Mexico you also have many choices. Here is a brief description of your choice and some advantages and disadvantages of each:

  • The large European carriers (i.e. Air France, KLM, Lufthansa, Iberia, and British Airways) usually fly to Mexico City (although some fly to top beaches) where you can connect to the rest of the country. When you arrive in the airport in Mexico City, you will have to clear immigration and customs, and then find the check-in counter for the airline you will be using to fly internally even if the airlines have service agreements. People in Mexico are friendly so don't be afraid to ask for help.

  • The two largest carriers in Mexico are Aeromexico and Mexicana. They fly to London, Paris, and Madrid, and offer friendly world class service. They tend to be cheaper than other airlines.

  • Another option is to hop through the US. This is convenient because there are plenty of flights between the US and Europe and also between the US and Mexico. The only issue some people find is the need to go through immigration in the US airports. It can take from two minutes up to two hours depending pretty much on luck. The good thing is that the airlines will back you up and reschedule your flight right away without charge and because there are many flights it is usually not a big problem.

  • Vacation operators also provide a cheap alternative when flying to top beaches. Most of these airlines are based in the UK. Examples of these are: First Choice, Thomson and Monarch.

Cheap Flights to Mexico from Asia

Here are your choices to find cheap flights to Mexico from Asia.

  • There is now an option to fly from Asia direct to Mexico with Aeromexico. They have opened a direct flight from Shangai and Tokyo to Mexico City. Aeromexico is a Skyteam member and they offer world-class service.

  • Another alternative is to hop through the US. There are plenty of flights from Asia to the US and also from the US to Mexico so this is a convenient option. The only issue is the need to go through immigration in the US(also mentioned above when flying from Europe). It can take from two minutes up to two hours depending pretty much on luck. Also, the US requires a Visa to go through their airports unless you are a citizen of a country in the Visa waiver list.

  • The last option is to go through Vancouver or Calgary in Canada. These two cities have plenty of flights to Asia and also to Mexico City and some top beaches

Mexico Airlines

Trips within Mexico are becoming more affordable thanks to the emerging low cost airlines. Additionally, Aeromexico, and Mexicana have reduced their tariffs and introduced their own regional carrier brands to compete. Here are the relatively new low cost airlines:

  • Volaris This airline has its major hub in Toluca Mexico which is only 30 minutes from the elite area of Santa Fe in Mexico City.

  • Interjet has its hubs in Mexico City and Toluca Mexico.

  • has its main hub in Monterrey. It follows the same low cost concept as Ryanair in Europe.
